A Mystical Land Review

Overview
First and foremost  this game has a great concept. It lets the players do pretty much anything. Now that being said, to start players out it puts them into a tutorial area that only covers a minute amount of information. What I mean by this, is that it has many different areas where it teaches players about the different aspects of the game but only has quests and information for half of the things there. It shows you how to use an anvil to craft things but it does not show you how to shear sheep. The quests do not follow any kind of ordering to make sure players cover all of the areas there. So not only does it have little information, but it does not make sure the players learn what is available to then. Even after the player is out of the tutorial and makes their way to the fairgrounds there is little to no direction for players. This doubled with stability issues such as lag, server timeouts, and connection crashing makes for a very frustrating experience that will undoubtedly make players not want to even bother with the game.
Fixes
In order for the game to be more apealing to the player base, the networking issues need to be fixed first and foremost. Lag is one the most unberable things to deal with in any online game world. It makes players want to rip out their hair when, for no aparent reason, one game out of many plays in slow motion because it refuses to have a stable connection.
Only after the stablilty issues have been taken care of, the quests should be more structered to move the player from point a to point b. This will ensure that the player learns everything in the turtorial area while at the same time the feeling of being lost or confused will disappear. This ensures that the player wont just sit around a quit and makes sure that the player knows where to go when they have finished in an area.
Conclusion
Again, this game has a great concept but unless the stability issues are fixed and the quests have a more general direction to them I would not consider this to be a great game.

TALLIED SCORE!!!!!! (drumroll please)............................... 4.50/10!!!!

Wizards101 Review

Gameplay
As far as controls and user interface goes Wizards 101 did a decent job of making everything smooth and pretty straight foreward to understand. The game presents itself as another typical World of Warcraft clone until it puts you into your first battle. The card battle system is a welcoming change to the MMORPG genre because it allows the player to have a more casual experience to the typical gameplay found throughout the game world at this moment in time.
The only thing that I would change as far as Wizards 101 is concernered is the background downloading of the game. Although this idea is a great way to get player into the game at a faster rate you run into the issue of having things that the player is not close to encountering downloading before needed. What I mean by this is, if you are on your way to a zone in the game and you are forced to stand and wait because that section has not been downloaded yet, you as a player are bound to get frustrated. Now in that same situation your notice that the piece a game that IS downloading has nothing to do with the area you are going to (which did happen to me while playing) you are going to realize that there is no structure to the order of what is being downloaded in order for the player to have a smooth game transition.
In my eyes the only two remedies for this include either just making the player to fully download and install the game or, restructuring the order data is downloaded by the game to allow the more important pieces that will be needed by the player to be installed sooner rather than later. This would allow for a smoother game transition for the player and help prevent the player from standing around and waiting just to get to another zone in the game.
Conclusion
Other than the downloading order, this game gives a unique experience that allows for a different kind a game experience while at the same time retaining the familiarity of todays game worlds. It allows players from across many age groups to be able to play together while keeping the younger players entertained while at the same time giving the older players a different game experience.

TALLIED SCORE!!!!!! (drumroll please)............................... 8.50/10!!!!

Battlestar Galactica Online Review

Controls
Once a player enters the tutorial area of the game, they are walked through the control scheme for controling your ship. These controls that players are learning feel as if they were originaly mapped for a controler, not a mouse and keyboard. This makes the gameplay controls feel extremely taxing to try and keep up with the events going on around you. If, for instance, instead of making the throttle be controlled by the mouse wheel but mapped to the "Q" and "E" keys the player would have a more natural reaction to what he/she is doing as far as movement is concerned. Now when it comes to actualy playing against players and npcs you are forced to find and click your target in order to be able to begin any kind of attacks or manuvering away from your enemy. My suggestion to remedy this is to allow players to use the "TAB" key on their keyboard to cycle through all players and/or npcs around them. Another option to fix this is to either make an item that allows the auto aquisition of hostile targets or to make it a regular feature of the game. The reason I say make it an item is to make it so that if a player wants this ability then they would have to buy the feature with in game currency as to not unbalance the game.
Game Interface
After finishing the tutorial the player is thrust into their chosen race's main facility. Upon entering they are able to aquire their first mission or start their own personal exploration. For those that forgoe their first mission and say choose to go straight to the facility to purchase new ship parts and new ships they are left stranded and forced to find their own way back. Granted the game does warn you that you have to find your own way back before you choose to leave but once you get there you are not given any indication as to what each of the icons on the user interface are for, your map has very little detail and location markers so you have no idea where you need to go, and the game assumes that you know everything about the game mechanics, UI, and gameplay. In order to remedy this you can either redo the tutorial to teach players about the User Interface and/or implement a Tips and Hints feature which would cause random windows with bits of information and help to push the player in the right direction.
Conclusion
Battlestar Galactica is overall a decent game for a browser based game. It does a good job of giving the player the feel of it ACTUALLY being installed on ones computer. Other than the minor issues I mentioned, I would definitely recommend this game to a friend or two.

TALLIED SCORE!!!!!! (drumroll please)............................... 7.25/10!!!!
